Hello Fanciful Friends! Today I want to quickly talk about upcoming adaptation, Chapelwaite. This is an Epix television adaptation of Jerusalem’s Lot, aka my favourite Stephen King short story (which can be found in King’s first collection of short stories, Night Shift)! I am super excited, and I can’t wait to see how they present the story. And it’s less than a week away!!!
It is clear from the trailer that they have changed quite a bit from the original story, but I am excited to see these new plot points play out. They have kept the setting of Chapelwaite however, and the surrounding areas. It looks to be as gothic and atmospheric as the short story was, which was truly what I found appealing about it. The short story was epistolary (a series of letters and diary entries and such) and that is of course difficult to portray on screen, so we will be with the characters on their journey in real time.

I personally have no experience with the main actors, so I am going in blind in that regard, but I am optimistic that they were chosen for being the perfect fits for their characters. It also seems that the show will be tackling issues of racism, as the children are mixed race. So if that is something that is upsetting to you, I thought I would let you know. I do tend to enjoy horror that highlights that sometimes people are awful, supernatural monsters or no, so I am hoping that this aspect has been handled well.
When I found out about this I was super excited of course, but I was a little disappointed, because it looked as if it wasn’t going to be easy to find in Australia. Luckily, I was wrong! It will be streaming on Stan here, so even Aussie horror fanatics can get in on the action, from the 23rd of August.

Will you be watching? What are you most looking forward to? Have you read Jerusalem’s Lot?
