My 2021 Reading Goals

Well, 2020 is in the rear view mirror, and I am one of the lucky ones who didn’t lose a loved one, or a job, or any of the other terrible things so tied to the year that was 2020. I am however glad to see the year go, even though it doesn’t look like things will be improving any time soon. And my sympathies go out to all those personally touched by COVID-19 and any of the other tragedies that occurred.

Book wise, I had quite a good year of reading last year, and I would like to repeat that, but even better. So I have decided to sit down and actually consider what I would like to achieve this year in regards to my reading.

  1. Read at least thirty books this year – last year my goal was 25 and I managed 47. That is the best I’ve done in terms of volume, and honestly I was satisfied overall, with an average rating of 3.8 stars. Not bad. This year, my goal is at least 30 books, though I am hoping to exceed that. And an average rating above 3 stars would rock!
  2. Read one retelling a month – months and months ago, I decided that it would be fun to read some retellings this year, as 2021 is a chance for a do over for many people. So, I think one a month is a good number. I am planning on rereading House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig during the Winter months. If you have any suggestions of good retellings, let me know!!!
  3. Read ten ARCs – I started reading ARCs last year, and I enjoyed getting to read books early, and sharing my thoughts and feelings on them. I am more passionate about books than basically anything else, so feeling as if I am contributing to the book world and discourse so significantly is amazing to me. I hope to read at least ten ARCs this year, but I also want to pace myself with it, as I feel more responsibility in these reviews than in any other.
  4. Post at least one book review a week – I read a lot, but I don’t always write a review. Either I don’t feel like I have much to say, or I just didn’t connect too strongly with the book. This year, I would like to post at least one review a week, both as I read and in an attempt to catch up on past reads, here and on my Goodreads. This way, I hope to encourage more people to read some amazing books, and hopefully make some likeminded friends as well!

What are your goals this year? I would love to hear from you, and I hope that you have the best 2021 possible!
