I recently turned 30. An auspicious age. One that many dread, but I looked forward to. And so it was that on our last coffee date (ie. yesterday), my sister met me at the train station with a plate box wrapped in ribbons. We joked about how disappointing it would be if it was a plate set. Typical sister stuff.
Fast forward to the cafe. We have ordered, and are now sitting comfortably, waiting for our coffee. I begin attempting to detangle the bows and ribbons. It takes persistence, but finally, I am through the ribbon. And then!
Tape. Sigh.
Once I am through that, I open the box to discover a whole bunch of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate sachets. Lense wipes for my glasses. Lots of tissue paper. I blink. My sister laughs.
As I dig further, she explains that she wanted to get me a reading box online, but it was too expensive, so she put one together herself. Drinks for me to enjoy. A way to keep my glasses clean. Some pens to take notes. A plush unicorn bookmark to keep my progress and keep me company.
And of course, books. Four of them in fact. I am a very spoiled Fanciful Reader.
In the spirit of blind dates with books, my sister wrapped each book individually and wrote a few phrases on the paper for me to puzzle out. I won’t lie. I didn’t guess a single one.
I am looking forward to reading each of these and sharing my opinions with you! Truthfully, I have already read Voices in the Snow by Darcy Coates and, in fact, recommended it to my sister (she believes this may be why she jumped on that one for me). And it was good. Perhaps I will share my review of that as well.
Have you read any of these? What did you think of them?
